How internships work

Interns work in cohorts: groups of students who are mentored hands-on, together, on real industrial research challenges.

Who it suits
Engineering students
Those who want to apply their studies to research problems rather than textbook exercises.
Who mentors
The Research Programs team
Listed on the Leadership page.
Cohorts through a college
Via a partnership
Colleges can arrange cohorts for their students through an institutional partnership. Individual students can also write to us.

How to express interest

Expressions of interest from engineering students are welcome at any time.

In your message, please include:

  • your name and institution
  • your degree, branch and year of study
  • the research area that interests you most
  • any project, software or coursework that is relevant
  • when you would be able to start

Research areas

Our research falls into three areas. Tell us which one interests you most when you write.

  • Clean combustion and fuels

Hydrogen in diesel engines, and metal-oxide additives that change how a fuel ignites and burns.

  • Bioenergy systems

Biodiesel from water hyacinth, biomass gasification, and green hydrogen from organic waste.

  • Computational fluid dynamics

Turbulence, boundary layers, multiphase flow and conjugate heat transfer, modelled in ANSYS Fluent.
